The US military says guards have clashed with prisoners at Guantanamo as officers were moving detainees from communal to single cells in attempt to end a hunger strike that started in February.

The detainees used self-made weapons to resist the transfer, thus forcing guards to fire, the US military said in a statement.

“Some detainees resisted with improvised weapons, and in response, four less-than-lethal rounds were fired,” Navy Captain Robert Durand said in a news release.

Officials say no guards or detainees have been seriously injured.

But given the restricted nature of the prisoners’ lives, it is virtually impossible that they had the means to arm themselves with any sort of weapon, Cindy Panuco, a lawyer for one of the detainees, told RT.

“Well, it’s interesting to find out that they have makeshift weapons. Whenever we have gone down to visit our clients, the only things that they are allowed is small ballpoint inserts of a pen. They’re plastic, little, almost like straws with ink at the end of them. That’s pretty much all they’re allowed, so I don’t see, especially given the evasive searches that were conducted in February, what kind of makeshift weapons the government is referring to. That’s still to be determined, especially since there’s no way they could have any sort of weapons,” she argued.

Panuco believes the purpose of the transfer was in fact to break the prisoners will to continue carrying out the hunger strike.

“If they’re together, if they’re in communal living space, they can communicate and at least support each other. And now that they’re being isolated, it’s another form of torment.”

The reason for the move was explained because the detainees covered surveillance cameras, windows and partitions, preventing guards from observing them during a hunger strike that has been continuing for more than two months.

“Round-the-clock monitoring is necessary to ensure security, order, and safety as detainees continued a prolonged hunger strike by refusing regular camp-provided meals,” Durand said.

Over the years Guantanamo detainees participated in various forms of protests, Durand explained to RT, adding that this new coordinated effort has created an “unsafe situation.”

“We made the decision to move detainees into individual cells based on the detainees’ continued efforts to block observation,” Durand stressed. “We recently determined that the risk to the health and security of certain detainees had reached an unacceptable level due to non-compliant behavior.”

Each detainee’s physical and mental health has been evaluated after the sweep.

“Detainees may continue to hunger strike as a form of protest,” Durand said, also adding that moving them into individual cells has allowed JTF to “ensure that detainees are not being coerced by other detainees to participate in the hunger strike.”

Although Guantanamo authorities claim the detainees were resisting with “improvised weapons,” Cindy Panuco, a lawyer representing one of them told RT that the truth is still to be determined as “there is no way they could have any sort of weapons.”

She believes that isolation is just another effort to undermine solidarity among the prison population.

To be taken away from your friends and comrades, who were there with you, makes it much more difficult to endure what is already a very difficult situation.”

The detention camp at the Guantanamo Bay US Naval Base in Cuba holds 166 men, most of them captured more than a decade ago in different counter-terrorism operations.

Saturday’s early-morning sweep took place in Camp 6, a medium-security building where 80 to 100 detainees lived in cells that open into communal bays where they could eat, pray and watch television together. As part of the hunger strike, prisoners have been refusing to let food carts enter some of the bays.

Lawyers say most of Gitmo inmates are currently participating in the hunger strike. The US administration, however, is only acknowledging 43 cases, including 11 people who are being force-fed liquid nutrients through tubes inserted into their noses and down to their stomachs.

The hunger strike began in February in protest to the seizure of personal items from detainees’ cells. Some prisoners told their lawyers that their Qurans had been mistreated during the cell searches, which the US military denied.

Lawyers say the hunger strike is caused by the fact that most detainees are held there without being charged, overwhelmed by the depressing feeling they may never leave the prison.

Obama pledged to close the facility at the start of his first term, but has failed to do it so far.

Over a year in the works, the filmmaking process has led me on an intense non-stop journey across the entire United States several times over as my crew and I captured some of the most encompassing documentary footage ever to be presented on film.

With interviews from over 20 predominant researchers, historians, activists, musicians, and icons — SHADE the Motion Picture is going to be one intense documentary thrill ride.

It all started as a concept in my head that has since evolved into what has now become the film. When I first set out to make the film I knew it would be an endeavor for sure, but I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Later, I found out.

After several conversations early on with my good friend Avalon who was instrumental in helping me formulate a clear vision of my concept, I decided to do a couple test shoots to see what kind of quality my crew could achieve film wise.

I quickly learned that we would need to obtain top quality filmmaking gear and work with top industry professionals if we were going to make a serious impact with our film as people in general have short attention spans and are turned off by low quality cinema-photography.

That being said I wanted to make sure that the quality of SHADE the Motion picture would be nothing less than top notch.

After working with a local production company on several film shoots it was time for the real deal as my crew flew out to the once secretive Bilderberg Group meeting in June of 2012 to shoot LIVE action footage on scene at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly Virginia.

Jason Bermas, Alex Thomas, and myself were working around the clock as we were not only shooting footage for SHADE the Motion Picture but we also appeared on over 30 radio shows and were featured on mainstream press including the DrudgeReport.com, and the London Guardian for our exclusive Bilderberg reports and photos.

The DrudgeReport.com headline read “Alternative Media Group Plans Wall-to-Wall Bilderberg Coverage”.

After Bilderberg was over I quickly realized that the real work on the film would soon begin. I now had to set up interviews across the country with top researchers, historians, and professionals alike if I wanted this film to come together.

Once most of the interviews were aligned I could focus on the final vision of the film. Jason Bermas (Co-Producer & Co-Director of SHADE the Motion Picture) was instrumental in helping me through this as he is a seasoned filmmaker and we were able to work out the general script (sequence) for the film to better guide us through the filmmaking process.

The challenge of making a documentary film such as this one can be heavy at moments, but fun at others.

I was just thinking back on the Jordan Maxwell (SHADE) film shoot that took place in California a few months back.

Maxwell, a renowned and controversial researcher of the occult for over 50 years, was fully energized when Bermas and myself met up with him, as he was eager to go to his favorite deli for a sit-down meal.

This guy was radiating energy, we could barely keep up with him while bobbing and weaving through California traffic at high speeds. Once we arrived at the deli and placed our orders Mr. Maxwell began to tell us in detail how he belives the world really works.

Yes, I know this sounds funny, an elderly man telling two filmmakers how the world really works. But, let me tell you something, it was probably one of the most interesting hours of my life as the information was mind-blowing to say the least.

I also had the opportunity to hang out with my good friend Michael Murphy (filmmaker) on several occasions. One on of these trips, Murphy and I traveled to Hollywood Hills to film Reggae Artist Skull (managed by Morgan Carey) to appear in SHADE the Motion Picture after his epic release of the song “Cry Die“ a chemtrail anthem. All great people, good times. (Michael Murphy is currently working on his third film.)

So many other great people appear in SHADE the Motion Picture and it was a pleasure meeting all of them.

But as the Republican primary increasingly becomes tantamount to election in the Lone Star State, the odds are growing that Gov. Rick Perry will be challenged in his own party for renomination next year if he chooses to run again.

Among those mentioned for a challenge are state Attorney General Greg Abbott, who would become only the third governor in the last century to use a wheelchair. The others were Franklin Roosevelt as governor of New York from 1928 to 1932, and Alabama Gov. George Wallace, after a shooting in 1972 left him paralyzed from the waist down. Wallace served four terms as governor in the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s.

Abbott was partially paralyzed by a falling tree while jogging as a young man, shortly after receiving a law degree from Vanderbilt University.

Perry, briefly a candidate for president in 2012, has held the governorship longer than anyone — since the then-lieutenant governor succeeded to the office back in 2001 when Bush assumed the presidency.

Smooth Transition in Nebraska
The Nebraska Republican Party had a surprisingly smooth transition in its leadership ranks, coming at a time when both the governorship and the seat of Republican Sen. Mike Johanns are open and vulnerable to Democratic assault.

Even with state Republicans rocked by clashes between the “establishment” faction and adherents of Ron Paul, Lincoln attorney J.L. Spray was elected without opposition to succeed retiring State GOP Chairman Mark Fahleson.

Both are considered strong conservatives with close ties to both the major donors of the party and the tea party factions.

Sullivan Surges in Straw Poll
A month before the Republican primary to choose the nominee for U.S. senate from Massachusetts to succeed Secretary of State John Kerry, signs are increasingly strong the GOP candidate will be ex-U.S. Attorney Michael J. Sullivan.

Recently, Sullivan won a straw vote of North Andover Republicans with 58 percent of the vote over state Rep. Daniel Winslow, who had won the same poll a month ago.

The third contender, venture capitalist Gabriel Gomez, is floundering amid revelations he contributed to Barack Obama in 2008. Reps. Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch are vying in the Democratic primary to compete in the special election for Kerry’s seat, scheduled for June 25.

California GOP Looks to Brulte
A decade ago, when he was Republican leader of the California state Assembly and later the state Senate, Jim Brulte was distrusted by conservative activists within the state party, such as then-state GOP Chairman Shawn Steel.

But two weeks ago, all that became history as Brulte was elected state party chairman without opposition. Among those backing him was Steel, now GOP national committeeman from the Golden State.

“Jim may be closer to the establishment than the grass-roots,” one conservative activist from Orange County told me, “but he might be able to raise the money.”

In the last two election cycles, Democrats have won every statewide office, and there is no Republican on the horizon to challenge Gov. Jerry Brown in 2014.
